A modern-day story about making a fortune in the oil rig world of West Texas. A landman, at least one who works in the oil industry, will act as an intermediary between exploration companies and landowners. It is usually the landowner’s job to negotiate and finalize contracts with landowners with mineral rights to lease those rights to the companies they represent. Essentially, they manage the land and secure their lease so they can drill for oil and gas. Like foremen on the job site, they build roads, housing for workers (man-camp), oversee the installation of excavation and drilling machinery on the job site itself, especially in remote locations. They are also problem solvers, problem solvers, and leaders. Referenced in CBS News Sunday Morning: Episode #44.24 (2022). This could easily be rated 8.5 – 9. If it weren’t for the creepy and overly sexualized daughter & ex-wife/mother. They serve no plot purpose and are just annoying and offensive to the women of West Texas. As a man from far west Texas myself, I understand where Sheridan is coming from in a way, but this is awful. West Texas women are the strongest and most ambitious women I know. Other than that, the writing and acting are great. Sheridan easily has another Yellowstone on her hands if she can get away with a very nasty family feud. But then again, I like some of Sheridan’s writing (and acting) and an absolutely very enjoyable series, for the most part.
